Mental Health Education In Schools Petition

16:34

Today is going to be another quick post to tell you about a petition that you should all take a look at.

The petition I am discussing with you today has been launched by Headucation UK and they need 100,000 signatures by the 3rd of May for the petition to be considered for debate in parliament.
The petition is to make mental health education compulsory in primary and secondary schools in the United Kingdom.
If we educate students from a younger age on issues surrounding mental health then we help to erase the stigmas mental health disorders have surrounding them whilst also raising awareness for them.
If classrooms have open discussions around mental health, it may help students that are suffering to open up and be honest with what they are dealing with. Also the younger people start to be honest and seek help the faster they can seek recovery.

As somebody who suffered with mental health disorders throughout childhood, I think that its important to educate young people on the issues surrounding mental health as I was never taught anything about it and I kept silent about what I was going through because of feeing ashamed and this resulted in me being led further into my illness.
It is said that around 3 children in every classroom suffer from a mental health disorder. If these students are educated about the disorders it could help them recognise the symptoms they are going through and then encourage them to speak out to seek help.
It is so important that we offer support to young people as nobody no matter what age they are should have to struggle alone!
